Through the Roof

Through the Roof 2009, watercolor on paper, 52" x 70"

The "roof" in this painting is a section of a 1920's lattice-work pavilion at the Cranford Rose Garden in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. It focuses on architectural detail, similar to the approach to interiors in another seriies Chambers. The shadows and highlights of the rafters are painted in fiery yellows and oranges. The blazing hot colors contrast with an eerily magenta sky on a hot and humid Brooklyn summer day. more
